Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to address all the things that have gone wrong with the bodies, minds, and spirits of billions of people over hundreds of generations. It can treat everything from the common cold to cancer, baldness to blindness. It has virtually no side-effects nor contra-indications. It can be used by itself for some conditions, or may be combined with Western techniques. It should not be considered "alternative medicine" but should be thought of more as "complementary". In China, they refer to the use of Eastern and Western techniques as "walking on two legs". The analogy being that, while you can get somewhere by hopping on one leg, you can get there a lot easier and faster walking on two.
Chinese medicine is supposed to be preventative. Sun Si Miao, one of the fathers of Eastern medicine wrote that "In cases of disease or disorder, the physician should first address the diet and lifestyle. If that fails, then we proceed to the more heroic modalities of acupuncture and herbs." Here at A Center for Oriental Medicine, we use Chinese medicine to bring our patients back into balance; but our greater job is to teach them how to live in balance so they will not need to return.
Our practitioners all hold the highest recognized degree in Oriental Medicine in Illinois and are certified by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ncaaom.org). In addition, Jeanie Lee Bussell and Jason Bussell also trained in China. You can read more about each practitioner on the "about our practitioners" page.
